Bad luck comes in threes?

Well, we’ve had four lots of it and are hoping the tide turns soon!

Simba still isn’t in the all clear and things seem to be getting worse. Poor boy isn’t eating now and blood tests have indicated a liver problem. He’s still at the vets and we’re missing him.

The other week the dishwasher went on the blink and the cost of fixing it (after we’ve already spent on a call-out fee etc.) is more than buying a new one – so we’re happily hand-washing and doing our bit for New Zealand’s lake levels!

Sunday morning we woke to find a tree had blown down and was blocking our drive-way (what – no escape!).

Sunday afternoon (after some kind fella cleared the tree) our car started over heating on a short drive to visit Simba and our good friend Lucy, who has moved into her own digs closer to town (and where she won’t be woken in the middle of night by our little darlings!). Called AA last night and they took one look before booking a tow to the garage for the next morning. The girls and I didn’t miss the car at all and had a blast on the buses. Turned out the car has a broken radiator and the bill wasn’t pretty (darn!).

Stuff the fuel price rises: take the bus!

After a fantastic experience on the buses the girls and I have decided to go green these holidays and take the buses as much as possible (it sure beats the fighting in the back seat and I get to enjoy the view!). On a green side-note: I love the way Charli now proudly says to shop sales people on purchasing something, ‘No bag for me, I’m saving the environment.’

We took a bus to Kilbirnie for ‘Story Time’ at the library and then caught a second bus into the city to visit Te Papa and pick up our car. The drive home wasn’t nearly as much fun.

With parking in the city centre at $4 an hour and petrol prices as they are the buses really are the way to go. It only cost me $5 for all three of us to travel unlimited (after 9.00am on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays) on Go Wellington services within Zones 1 to 3.
