Holiday loves from Nelson

Posted on January 18, 2013 by BritMumInNZ

Time has to be the biggest love of any holiday for our family. No matter where we are, no matter the weather (though sunshine for at least half the holiday is preferable), it is time that holds the highest value.

Time to talk idly over coffee or dinner.

Lambretta's in Nelson for morning tea

Grandad and Alice at Lambrettas in Nelson

Time to play.

Kaiteriteri water play with Granddad

Sisters playing a game over lunch in a pub

A game of chess at Jesters Cafe

Time to amble at leisure and step in a shop for a gander.

Time to wander through a museum, to read and digest the information, to imagine life in another time.

Grandma and Alice at Nelson museum

Time to admire the scenery, from countryside…

Nelson, New Zealand

to golden sand beaches of the Abel Tasman National Park…

Kaiteriteri Beach

and watching an outgoing tide at Mapua.

Mapua

Time to treasure the little pleasures – a drawing with chalk, a freshly plucked flower behind the ear,
kiss curls and bubble baths.

Alice drawing with chalk whilst waiting for dinner

A flower in her hair and kiss curls Alice

Time to get lost in a maze.

Entrance to Stoneridge Maze, Nelson

Which way now? In the maze at Stoneridge, Nelson

And return from the maze to a beautiful setting for morning tea.

Back from the maze at Stoneridge, Nelson

Stoneridge Cafe

Time to enjoy water play.

Gold sands at Kaiteriteri beach, gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park

Kaiteriteri

Splash - checking out the Clifton School pool near our holiday home - we had a key - but only used it once... brrr!

Bumper boats at Tahunanui beach, Nelson

Zorb ball fun at Tahunanui recreation ground

Time to value the importance of family and the wisdom of grandparents.

Alice in Granddad's arms after a swim in Nelson pool

Grandma at Stoneridge Cafe

Time to play ‘make believe’ in fairy like gardens, that are so plentiful in the expansive countryside of rural Nelson.

Alice, playing fairy Princess at Jesters Cafe

Dan and Alice play house at Jester's Cafe

Where cafes, art and creative expression, intermingle to provide a rich sensory experience.

Jesters cafe

Time, when it works in favour, with little ones taking a nap when it’s needed and older children knowing when to stop, eat and rest.

Chilling out on novel chairs at Eyebright!

Our holiday in Nelson is not yet over and we are treasuring this time together.

So thankful to be here, in beautiful Nelson, making memories to last.
