The girls and I took the easy route to Taupo last week; travelling in a 19 seater plane! We were blessed with stunning views on both the outward and return flight. Dan enjoyed a 5-hour drive – pumping up his favourite music on the stereo with no ‘back-chat’! The girls were so excited to see their Grandparents – who’d flown into Auckland the day before – after a wonderful 4-day stop-over in San Diego.
Looking down on Mt Ruapehu brought back happy memories of ski weekends and our pre-children tramping days – all to be reignited in years to come!
Mt Ngauruhoe and the Tongariro National Park are stunning to behold from the air and we are very excited for Grandma and Grandad walking the Tongariro Crossing on 7 February (though Grandma is a little nervous and probably praying for bad weather and a cancellation!). They’re staying in comfort at Bayview Chateau Tongariro (a Christmas present to them from us) and we cherish our own special memories of our own stay there and our many adventures walking in the mystical and breathtaking scenery of this stunning World Heritage Site.
Arriving in Taupo was a delight. The lake, the size of Singapore, was alive with water lovers of all types. And what an amazing holiday we had!
We spent the week at The Anchorage Resort Motel, a favourite from previous trips to Taupo, and it was magic to be back enjoying lake views, daily soaks in the pool and hot tub, and some time to simply relax with our family.
