After dropping Charli at school this morning, Sophie and I drove into the city with Dan and were greeted to the most breathtaking scene of low lying cloud. We pulled over to gaze in awe and had the feeling it was going to be a very good day – and indeed it was. Wellington has a climate that engages all of your senses. There is even a book of poetry devoted to the subject, called ‘Big Weather‘, which Lindsay Shelton reports on – Revealed: the Wellington book that’s most popular with Wellingtonians.

Gorgeous reminds me of the scenery in ‘The Piano’ or LOTR and in 3 weeks we will be able to enjoy it ourselves albeit from underneath layers and layers of icebreaker!!
Have a fabulous trip/holiday home! Wishing good weather for you – though am sure it will be magic whatever.
Serenely beautiful indeed….just the pictures takes our breath away never mind the real thing….I wish!!! Such stunning pictures and sounds a beautiful day too.We are so lucky to see and read all about it. I can feel a painting coming on indeed but sure it wouldn’t look like the real thing!! Enjoy our darlings.
Awww, thanks Mum. Your paintings are really coming along and I so enjoyed seeing them on ‘Skype’ the other day. I’m so happy for you. We love and miss you so much as always. Will talk soon xx
Wow – those cloud pictures are awesome. Atmospheric and so very Wellington.
The colours in the sky at this time of year are absolutely breathtaking. I’m loving the clarity of the scenery with the sun sitting low in the sky. Picture perfect! Sophie and Charli are enjoying seeing the sunrise and set (as so often in Winter they are asleep and miss all the magic).
You’re right about the sky colours. Beautiful, and beautiful pictures too.
Have you seen the snow on the Rimutakas today? And I think there’s more to come.
Oooo, no I didn’t see the snow on the Rimutaka Range – but always a very impressive site. I’m on the South Coast so often admire the seaward Kaikoura ranges. Hope you have enjoyed the sun today. It’s been a great day!
How simply stunning these images are. Gorgeous, really gorgeous.
Sure was magical – just transported me back to childhood and tales of fairies and dragons x
You’ve captured it beautifully, those are great, really atmospheric 🙂
Thank you so much Rachel x
