Wellington Lantern Festival – in the spring rain

Posted on December 18, 2022December 18, 2022 by BritMumInNZ

After a couple of years of being postponed it was wonderful to see the vibrant ‘Lumino City‘ return to Wellington’s waterfront on the weekend of 18th-19th November. This festival started in 2015 and has grown each year, with more lanterns, entertainment and visitors. Though it was a soggy evening for our visit, it felt tropical and rain coats and umbrellas were soon ditched as we danced, laughed and splashed in the puddles.

Penguins in the rain on Wellington waterfront for Lumino City

Live performances, tasty treats, and funky beats accompanied the dazzling light displays. There were Penguins, Dandelions, Jellyfish and more in the ‘Uniquely Wellington Precinct‘.

And symbolic lanterns representing countries from around world (World Precinct).

We had a great time, no matter the weather!
