Sky Tower & Auckland Museum [Day 5]

Standing at 328 metres the Sky Tower in Auckland is only for those with a head for heights. The experience starts in the lift, where a portion of the floor is 38cm thick glass, revealing the lift shaft below. As the lift rockets to the top of the tower a window reveals an ever increasing view for up to 80 kilometres in every direction.

For those with cash to burn and thrills to seek there is the option of a SkyWalk round the pergola at 192 metres up or SkyJump off the Tower! We enjoyed marvelling at the view and walking on the glass floor, whilst watching people jumping off the tower – great entertainment over coffee!

After the dizzying heights of the Sky Tower we drove to Auckland Botanical Gardens to visit the Auckland Museum, where we were happy with the free parking! Though we had got discounted parking at the Sky Tower, as we’d paid to go up it.

The museum is a grand building with a fabulous collection of exhibits and attractions. We could have spent a day there, with the gardens providing a wonderful breather.

We had a wonderful day, made all the more special as it was shared with an old friend we hadn’t seen in ten years!
