We visited Disneyland and California Adventure Park at the end of November,
everything was decked out for Christmas. We stayed at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and it was breathtakingly decorated for the season.
We holidayed with wonderful friends; our neighbours from New Zealand flew over to join us! They landed in LA, after some 14 hours of travelling time, from Wellington, New Zealand, and arrived at the hotel to be greeted by an array of twinkling lights, Christmas music and our thrilled faces to see them.
The children were so happy to be reunited with their friends and, aside from some sickness (which unfortunately tainted our enjoyment a little), we definitely made some amazing memories – which are almost better on quiet reflection…
I watched my children’s eyes, filled with wonder –
I marvelled at the sparkling lights and shows
I laughed alongside them on the rides –
I waved at the characters in costume –
I steered through the crowds of people
And sometimes wished I could wear blinkers, like the horses!
I took photos of so many Christmas trees –
Ooo’ed and Ah’ed at the light shows –
and so much more…

We went to Disneyworld recently and really struggled too. Just like a shopping mall on steroids. All we overheard were kids crying, stressed out parents arguing and the crowds were horrible. Yes rides are fun but overall just left Richard and I with a bad taste in our mouth – never again!
ag so how i feel after any day at QLD theme parks – really struggle with noise, crowds, plastic, obesity and junk food everywhere, and the fake high…well said; but lovely video too! Magic vs reality..tough.
Bless them, it looks like they had a wonderful time. I can totally see it from your point of view in your poem – brilliantly written. There really is something to be said about being a child – no tainted view of the world! Thanks for linking to Prose for Thought x
