Sailing on Lake Taupo

Posted on February 11, 2008March 21, 2011 by BritMumInNZ

There are numerous ways to enjoy Lake Taupo. When the girls are older we’ll look forward to taking our own vessel out on the water; but in the meantime we enjoyed a sail on a yacht named ‘Barbary‘, once owned by Errol Flynn.

It was an extremely peaceful way to enjoy the lake. The girls were naturals with Charlotte shouting out, ‘Tacking!’ and Sophie, ‘More wind in the sails!’.

They loved taking to the cabin and checking out the toilet onboard and the pump system! Meanwhile, Dan viewed the yachts for sale and dreamed of bigger things for the future!

We stopped for a quick dip in the lake by the Maori rock carvings. The water was surprisingly warm; despite the depths. It was crystal clear and the volcanic goodness bubbling up from the earth was a superb tonic for body and soul.
