The wind and rain hasn’t let up in days, but we’re now laughing in the face of it and finding comfort in all the good stuff of winter (even though it isn’t officially winter till 1 June!). So… the cooker is a baking like crazy (whilst Dan braved 140 km/per hr winds to play soccer on Saturday – total farce!), the vino is warming the cockles of our hearts, the girls are so into their arts and crafts (and baking!) and we’re all good. Must post up the recipe for ‘Crater Cookies’ soon – which Charli took into school this morning for her ‘Something I made’ news morning. Her class is about to start a ‘Space Theme’ topic, so they went down a treat (with not a crumb to spare!).
Just LOVE this video from David Frampton, a Wellington software developer, surfer and (self-confessed) lazy alcoholic. We have whiled away quite a few hours this week watching the stormy waves from the comfort of the car and rugging up with comfort food – totally awesome!

Had a great weekend and fabulous Sunday morning at the rec centre (didn’t quite manage to don my hot pants for roller blading – sorry Kathy!). We caught up with our old friends Wutee and Hikaia, who have four amazing children. It had been quite some time since we’d last all got together and a meet-up was well over due. We will always have fond memories of a fabulous golfing weekend away in Taupo with them (well, golfing for the boys at any rate!). In the afternoon we baked and cooked up a roast dinner – a perfect wintry Sunday! I’m really revving up for a Winter Solstice / Matariki party and couldn’t resist stringing up a strip of fairy lights in the kitchen!
Also, thanks to my friend Kathy for letting your hubby and bro out on Saturday night – Havana Bar was smoking! Though I did get a tad worried when Mark started to do an impression of Hayden with his double light sabers! We must have sounded like a gang of banshees! Think we managed to scare a few of the regular patrons away! Tee hee!

Thanks for the video. I love watching the waves. There aren’t too many places near here where you can watch the big waves from the comfort of your car, mostly you have to wrap up and walk which makes it a bit less tempting. Romas would be one of those people out there surfing those big waves but I’m a summer body boarder and 3-4ft waves are enough for me.
All sounds good on the home front…we are forecast a big thunder storm tonight..time to get snuggled under the blanket later on. Loved the sea video and miss not being by the sea…lovely to watch. You are so lucky to be near the sea!!!
The ‘crater cookies ‘ sound fantastic and seem to have gone down a treat….send on the recipe we say and well done Charli…what a treat for your class buddies…..did Sophie get to eat one..or two !!!
