Her ears are like little shells,
Catching the whispers of sound.
She dips them in the water,
Where mermaid treasure is found.
Flower stars, adorn her ears,
Where once, her soft skin was bare.
Turning eight, she shows no fear,
But seeks her birthstone with care.

My oldest daughter is turning eight and has just had her ears pierced! I took the photograph above last Saturday, just after she’d bravely had them pierced.
I wrote this post with inspiration from ‘Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop’ and chose prompt 2 – ‘Write a poem inspired by a picture you took last week. Share both!’.

That’s a sweet post!! My daughter was 8 when she got her ears pierced too. What a big day that felt like!!
Beautiful poem! Choice of ear-ring is lovely. My eldest daughter didn’t have her ears pierced until the Summer before starting Senior School! Life would be very boring if we all chose to follow suit….
I can’t wait to get earrings for my three girls! So exciting:) I like the photo and the earrings she’s wearing. Sweetness.
Cute! I had my daughter’s ears pierced at 3 months, and I love picking out cute earrings with her. We have a blast!
I loved the sweet poem 🙂
