The scenery here in the South Island of New Zealand is breathtakingly beautiful. We’ve been staying in Queenstown, overlooking Lake Wakatipu, where the scenery is fluid with the weather, the season, the time of day.
Waking to see beautiful sunrises and watching in awe as the colours on the mountains change as the sunsets.
It’s like watching an artist at work – a Godly hand on the paint-brush, where the work is never done, but ever changing.
Scenery that lends truth to the statement, ‘Heaven on Earth’.
Landscapes that inspire the viewer to be creative, by word, thought, music or art. I wrote this poem yesterday for ‘Prose for Thought‘;
This holiday, with only two nights left, will linger with me for a long while after. I shall be thinking of running in the ever changing colours, kicking up carpets of autumn leaves, long after they’ve all left the trees bare for winter.

I cannot believe the beautiful scenery that surrounds you – and wow you picked the most amazing time of the year to visit xx
It’s been a long-held dream of mine to visit Queenstown in Autumn. I’ve been in the spring & the winter, but to see the autumn colours here is incredible. It really is breathtaking and I will take these memories with me to the US and they will keep a big part of my heart wanting to return to New Zealand.
Amazing photos! It is so beautiful down there this time of the year. I have a life long dream to ride the rail trail through there sometime. (Soon I hope)
Beautiful poem and amazing scenery….as I have said before the light and colour in those photos is stunning….come rain or shine my paints will come out and a piccie or two may just be done….love this and will return for some inspiration on a wet day and paint away.
I have been thinking of you Mum and how much your painting has developed. Your artwork is beautiful and I know you’d do justice to some of these photographs with your clever hands and sensitive eyes to make an incredible scene. Love you and Dad so much x
Queenstown itself I didn’t find that exciting, but the scenery down the west coast and then into Queenstown gave us many ‘oh wow’ moments. Sounds like it has been a perfect holiday in every respect.
Oh yes Ben, I totally agree – Queenstown is nothing on the rest – but it was an easy spot to stay for the week with the children of differing ages and keep them entertained in their different ways. Dan and I spent many moments remembering the freedom of our pre-parent days, doing long four day treks in Fiordland, walking on a glacier etc. Ah, but those days will return 🙂
