Our prayers go out to all those that have lost a loved one in today’s devastating earthquake in Christchurch. So many people are fighting for their lives tonight – with thousands more fighting to free them. As I lay with my children, reading and talking tonight, my thoughts were very much with the people of Christchurch, suffering strong after shocks.
Charlotte is scared to sleep tonight and asked would we be safe in our home if there was an earthquake. She asked if she would be safe at school too and asked about Dan at work. I can only imagine what the poor children in Christchurch must be like going to sleep this night. My heart goes out to everyone x

The news of the earthquake in Christchurch reached us on the news this morning…our hearts and prayers go out to everyone there.
it is so sad Sarah. I hope the children in Christchurch will sleep safe tonight.
Very glad you posted. Immediately thought of you and your family when I read the news this morning. Thinking of you both and your little ones.
Ive thought numerous times about if Daniel went to school in Chch today
weve had our own extended family trying to get home to Rangiora which took all afternoon and into the evening to get home
yes can’t believe it’s happened again. Praying lots
Dreadful news, I can’t imagine the effect it has on all of you simply worrying about the victims and if anything more will happen. Praying for you all.
I will light a candle for all the people – Mothers and their babes especially.
Immediately thought of you when I heard the news. So absolutely terrible. All my thoughts are with the people of Christchurch and the people of New Zealand today. xxx
We have friends saying that their kids are indeed traumatised, and that the family is sleeping together in the rumpus.
So awful.
I just read about this on another blog and I’m so sorry for all those who are in that scary situation and suffering tonight. I hope your children can rest peacefully, and you too. It’s hard to answer those questions when we really don’t have the answers at all.
Dearest sis, I am thinking of you all today and my dear friend Pam in Christchurch. I have sent an email but no news yet so all fingers are crossed. Take care and give everyone a hug from me. Lots of love and hugs Claire Xxx
How did you honestly answer Charlotte, Sarah?
Fact is, – if we are brutally honest, – the kind of devastation we have just seen in Christchurch is inevitable for Wellington also, even more so. Sometime, someday, the earth will move here too… bigtime, as it has many thousands of times before, and in so doing shaped the topographical grandeur of our hills and harbour.
You have chosen to live in a very seismically dangerous part of the world. I know we can never live our lives in the shadow of constant fear, but this must be one of the things you and Dan undoubtedly have to weigh up when thinking about whether to relocate back to England or stay on here.
Hi Phil, a very good question, which has prompted a blog post. I love your reference to the ‘topographical grandeur of our hills and harbour’. It is the raw beauty and moving life force of the earth here that is so attractive, yet so dangerous too. We choose to live here, knowing the risks, but there are risks wherever we live. I just feel very blessed for every day I have here. Best wishes and hope all your family & friends are safe. Sarah
My dearest sister, I’m so relieved you’ve since heard from Pam and I very much hope she takes us up on our offer and comes up to Welly for a break. With all my love from me and the family, Sarah x
It is so hard Kathy and I’ve just written another blog post with the answer that I gave Charlotte. Tragic events make us realize how very precious life is and not to take a day for granted. I hope your family & friends are all safe. Best wishes, Sarah
I hope they can find peace in some way, some how. It’s hard to imagine how I’d feel in that situation, but I think one can only be grateful for every moment of life we have and all pull together to help those that need us most at this awful time. It is so heartening to see all the support flooding in from New Zealanders around the country. Kiwis have BIG hearts x
Bless you. It is so sad, but there are so many amazing stories of kindness too. The human spirit is strong and Kiwis have big hearts. We are all pulling together at this difficult time x
Bless you, thanks Nicole x
Thank you dear Ruta x
I know the ‘What ifs’ can torment us. I have just written a post with that question in mind. It’s heartbreaking, but heartwarming to see people pulling together to provide support where it’s needed most. Sending you and your family much love x
Thank you so much x
Thank you dear Mum and Dad and so relieved to get the news that Kathy, Alan and family escaped unhurt. They have been very much in my thoughts. With all our love x
