The little playhouse in our garden has been transformed over the past weekend, with the girls helping ‘Handy Daddy’ to source wood, hammer it up, give it an undercoat and then paint it with chalk board paint. Sophie loves the work-bench at Kindi (complete with real hammers, saws and nails) and was over the moon when we bought her a little hammer of her own. She couldn’t wait to get started on her first ‘real’ project with Daddy (who isn’t a natural DIY’er and so is trying to push his fears aside – much like I did with baking!). Anyway, the results are great and Dan reported to feeling, ‘Very manly,’ in his broad Lancashire tones with a twist of Kiwi.

What a lovely project to do as a family. And to think that you have now made such a rich memory for your children is wonderful.
Well done!
PS love what you said about your Dan not being a natural DIY’er because I guess with a bit (a lot) of effort and perserverance, anything is possible!
That is a wicked idea….and as Juggling Motherhood says, they will remember it forever!
What a super effort you have made doing up the playhouse and working so carefully and sensibly with the hammers, paintbrushes and everything. It looks FANTASTIC and we look forward to seeing it.What fun you have playing in the little house…just wonderful.
Haven’t they had fun and the satsifaction of making something real. I love the idea of using proper tools in kindi, here there are so many ‘health and safety’ concerns and risk assessments you would have to be very brave to have real tools in class. And yet there was nothing more my boys loved doing when they were little, than whacking nails into wood with the biggest hammers they could find. And if they did get hurt it taught them to be more careful the next time. This society is far too molly coddled.
Oh LOVE it, especially with the flags. Those wee hammers are too cute! Well done Dan and girls!
I love my chalk board but I admit it would be more fun to have pictures on it rather than lists of things to do. Great to see your girls creative skills at play.
